How to keep your Faith Alive!

The Bible is filled with scriptures that speak of faith, the most popular probably being, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). Another well-known verse is, “For we walk by faith and not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7). Faith may undoubtedly be one of the most difficult things about being a Christian. How do you keep faith in God, who you cannot see? How do you keep believing in what the Bible says He is able to do, even when there may be evidence to the contrary? How do you keep your faith alive? The following can provide a little insight into how you can keep your faith alive. Enjoy!

  1. Read The Word!

As a child growing up in Sunday School, you may remember singing the words, ‘Read your bible, pray every day, and you’ll grow, grow, grow’. These words will always ring true! The Bible was given not only to instruct us on how we ought to live, but also to encourage us in our daily lives. Reading God’s Word daily helps to feed your faith. (See Romans 15:4.)

  1. Praise and Worship.

Psalm 22:3 tells us that God inhabits the praises of His people. Whether its singing unto Him, dancing in His presence, or making utterances of adoration and praises, spending time in the presence of God creates an atmosphere for you to have a genuine encounter with the Holy Spirit that fuels your faith.

  1. Fellowshipping with other believers.

In Hebrews 10:24-25 the bible tells us,

“Let us think of ways to motivate one another… And let us not neglect our meeting together…but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.”

Through fellowship as believers, we gain the understanding that we are not the only ones experiencing challenges in our Christian walk. We also acquaint ourselves with persons who may have previously been through what we may be going through at this present time. We are thereby encouraged and motivated in our faith.

  1. Just believe!

Just having faith is all you need, no matter how small it may seem to be. The Word of God says in Luke 17:6

“If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea’, and it will obey you.”

God is a gracious and loving God. He is able to take the little you have and multiply it. A little goes a long way when it comes to your faith in God!

  1.  Make recitations!

“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). Post your favorite verses up around your house or workspace to recite them as a reminder during the day. Have it framed and hang it as a nice addition to your décor, or have it as your screen saver on your PC or phone. Use a bible app with audio so you can listen any time.

  1. Avoid comparing yourself to other believers.

Comparing the measure of your blessing to others can be a dangerous thing. You may develop expectations of what God should do in your life that are not in accordance with His will for you. This then leads to discontent and disappointment when your expectations go unmet, and your faith may decrease. Remember, your journey will not be the same as other believers. But fear not… ‘no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly’ (Psalm 84:11).

At times your faith may waiver, especially when faced with difficulty. This can lead you to feel inadequate in your beliefs as a Christian. Then there are other times where you faith may soar, filling you with such hope for great things in the future. All in all, there’s no Christianity without belief in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We have been given a great gift and with it a manual on how to use such a gift. The word of God is key to walking in faith and victory. Stay blessed.
